How to Draw a Dandelion (Easy Step by Step)
A dandelion is a great first flower to draw because it is built from just a few simple pieces: a circle, straight lines, and tiny Y shapes. The spokes around the circle make it look like a puffy seed ball, and the floating seeds make it feel like a windy day. Nobody needs to be perfect here, since real dandelions are a little messy too.

Step 1: Seed head and seeds
Draw a small circle near the top of the page. Add long straight lines going out all around it like the spokes of a wheel, and give each one a tiny Y at the tip. Then draw three separate slanted lines with Y tops floating off to the right, like seeds blowing away in the wind.
Step 2: The long stem
Start at the bottom of the circle and draw a long, straight line going down the page. Let it wobble a tiny bit, just like a real plant stem.
Step 3: The base of the stem
At the very bottom of the stem, draw a short, thick bump or blob. This is the spot where the leaves will grow out from.
Step 4: The two leaves
Start at the bottom of the stem and draw a bumpy, wavy line that goes out to the left and up to a pointy tip. Then draw the same bumpy line on the right side, and join them along the bottom with more little bumps so both leaves are closed shapes.
Step 5: The left leaf vein
Inside the left leaf, draw one straight line from near the bottom of the stem up and out toward the leaf tip. This is the vein that runs down the middle.
Step 6: The right leaf vein
Do the same inside the right leaf. Draw one straight line from near the bottom of the stem up and out toward the leaf tip so both leaves match.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a dandelion
- Draw the center circle first and keep it small, so there is plenty of room for the spokes around it.
- Space the spokes like the hours on a clock: top, bottom, left and right first, then fill in the gaps between them.
- Give every spoke a little Y at the end, and make them all about the same size so the seed head looks round.
- Draw the leaf outline slowly with small bumps. Wobbly edges look just right on a dandelion leaf.

How to color your dandelion drawing
Try bright yellow for a dandelion in bloom, or soft gray and white for a puffball, with green for the stem and leaves. For a creative twist, color each floating seed a different color, as if they are carrying wishes.
Dandelion fun fact for kids
A dandelion seed head is made of many tiny seeds, and each one has its own little fluffy parachute so the wind can carry it far away.
