How to draw an igloo step by step

How to Draw an Igloo · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: The dome

Draw a big half circle, like a bowl turned upside down. Leave the bottom open.

  2. Step 2: Ground and doorway sides

Draw a flat line along the bottom on the left, from a little past the dome toward the middle, then turn it straight up to make one side of the doorway. Do the same on the right side, leaving a gap in the middle.

  3. Step 3: The entrance arch

Connect the tops of the two doorway sides with a wide, rounded arch, like a rainbow shape.

  4. Step 4: The door

Inside the arch, draw a smaller upside-down U. Start at the ground, go up, curve over the top, and come back down.

  5. Step 5: Rows of ice blocks

Draw one gently curved line across the upper part of the dome, from one side to the other. Then draw two shorter curved lines lower down, one on each side, running from the dome's edge to the arch.

  6. Step 6: Top blocks

In the top part of the dome, draw two short straight lines going down from the top of the dome to the curved line below. This makes three blocks.

  7. Step 7: Side blocks

Add short straight up-and-down lines between the rows on each side of the door: one in the middle row and one in the bottom row on the left, and the same on the right.

  8. Step 8: The flag

Draw a tall straight line rising from the very top of the dome. At the top of that line, draw a small triangle flag that points to the right.

  9. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an igloo

  • Draw the dome in one smooth sweep. If it looks lopsided, erase it and try again before you press hard.
  • Curve the block rows just a little, bending down in the middle. Straight rows will make your igloo look flat instead of round.
  • Leave a gap between the door and the arch so the entrance looks like a tunnel. Draw the door a bit smaller than the arch.

How to color your igloo drawing

Try pale blues and soft grays for the snow blocks, with a bright red or yellow flag and a dark door. For a creative twist, color the sky behind it deep purple.

Igloo fun fact for kids

Traditional igloos were built by Inuit hunters out of blocks of packed snow, laid in a spiral so the dome holds itself up. Many were used as temporary shelters during hunting trips.

Questions about drawing an igloo

What shapes do I need to draw an igloo?

You need a half circle for the dome, an arch and a small upside-down U for the entrance, and straight and gently curved lines for the ice blocks. A small triangle makes the flag.

How do I make my igloo look like it is made of snow blocks?

Draw curved rows across the dome, then add short straight lines between the rows. The rows and lines together make the blocks.

How do I make my igloo look cuter?

Add a cheerful flag on top and use soft, round lines. Coloring the blocks in pale blues also makes it friendlier.
