How to Draw a Christmas Ornament (Easy Step by Step)
A Christmas ornament is a fun first drawing because it is mostly a circle, straight lines, and a few little shapes. You start with one big round ball, add a cap and a hanging loop, then decorate it with lines, triangles, dots, and a star. Every ornament can look different, so yours will be one of a kind.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The round ball
Draw a big circle in the middle of your paper. Try to make it close to perfectly round.
Step 3: The cap
On top of the ball, draw a small rectangle with softly rounded corners. Its two sides start on the ball and the top closes the shape, so it looks like a little hat.
Step 4: The hanging loop
Draw a tiny straight line going up from the middle of the cap. Then draw a small teardrop loop at the top of that line, where the string will go.
Step 5: Four straight lines
Draw four straight lines across the ball from side to side. Put one near the top, one a little lower, one below the middle, and one near the bottom. Each line touches the circle on both ends.
Step 6: The zigzag
In the top band, between the first and second lines, draw a zigzag like a row of little mountains. Make the points touch the top and bottom lines so they make triangles.
Step 7: The row of dots
In the band between the third and fourth lines, draw a row of small round dots. Try to space them evenly from one side to the other.
Step 8: The little star
At the bottom of the ball, below the last line, draw a small star with five points. Start with a point at the top and zigzag around, then round off the tips.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a Christmas ornament
- Draw the circle slowly and turn your paper as you go. If one side looks flat, gently go over it again until it feels round.
- Use the edge of a ruler or a book to draw the four straight lines, so they stay straight and level.
- For the zigzag, make small marks along the top and bottom lines first so every triangle is about the same size.
