How to Draw a Race Car (Easy Step by Step)
A race car is a fun drawing because it is mostly circles and one long, low shape. You will draw a low body with wheel arches, two round wheels with rings inside, a dome with a driver, a number circle, and a wing at the back. Add the number one and it looks ready to race.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The car body
Start with a long, low shape. Draw a flat line across the top, a straight line down the back, and a gentle slope down to a rounded nose at the front. Along the bottom, draw two half-circle arches for the wheels to sit in, with a flat line between them.
Step 3: The back wheel
Draw a big circle in the back arch of the car. Draw a smaller circle inside it, then a tiny circle in the very middle for the hub.
Step 4: The front wheel
Draw a matching big circle in the front arch. Add a smaller circle inside it and a tiny circle in the middle, just like the back wheel.
Step 5: The cockpit dome
On top of the car, draw a half circle like a little hill that sits on the top line. This is where the driver sits.
Step 6: The driver's helmet
Inside the dome, draw a small rounded shape like an upside-down U that starts on the top line of the car. Add a tiny dot inside it for an eye.
Step 7: The racing number
In the middle of the car's side, between the wheels, draw a small circle. Draw a short straight line inside it to make the number one.
Step 8: The wing posts
Near the back of the car, draw two short straight lines going up from the top line. These are the wing posts.
Step 9: The back wing
Connect the tops of the posts with a flat, rounded bar, like a skinny pill. This wing helps the car stay on the road.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a race car
- Draw the body first and leave a clear arch for each wheel. Then the circles fit snugly under the car without crowding.
- Wheels are the trickiest part. Make the big circle first, then draw the smaller circles inside it so they all share the same center.
- Draw the wing posts as straight up-and-down lines, then connect them with the flat bar. Using a ruler or the edge of a book helps keep them even.

How to color your race car drawing
Try bright red or yellow for the body, with black and gray for the wheels. For a creative twist, give your race car stripes or flames, or color the number circle in a bold color.
Race car fun fact for kids
Many race cars have a wing that works like an upside-down airplane wing. Instead of lifting the car up, it pushes the car down so the tires grip the track in fast turns.
Questions about drawing a race car
What shapes do I need to draw a race car?
You need a long, low shape for the body, circles for the wheels, a half circle for the driver's dome, and a flat rounded bar for the wing. The number is just a small circle with a short straight line inside.
How do I make my race car wheels look round?
Draw a light circle first and trace over it, or use a cup or a coin as a guide. Then add smaller circles inside, keeping them centered, to make the wheel look like a real tire and rim.
How do I make my race car look faster?
Give it a sleek sloping nose and a low body. Bright colors and the number one on the side also make it look ready to zoom.
