How to Draw a Unicorn (Easy Step by Step)
This little unicorn is a friendly mix of simple shapes: a round head, a boxy body with short legs, a pointy horn, and a bumpy mane. It is a good first drawing because every part is big and easy to see. The star on its side makes it feel like your very own unicorn.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Head, back and legs
Draw one long curvy line: start with a big rounded bump for the head, then curve down the neck and run along the back to the left. Then draw the chest and the outer sides of the front and back legs going down.
Step 3: Gaps between legs
Along the bottom of the body, draw little upside-down U shapes to make the gaps between the legs. Keep the gaps about the same size so your unicorn stands steady.
Step 4: Horn and ear
On top of the head, draw a tall, skinny horn with a pointy tip. Then add a small rounded bump next to it, on the back side of the head, for the ear.
Step 5: The fluffy mane
Behind the ear, draw a row of wavy bumps that run down the neck. End the last bump where the neck meets the back.
Step 6: The swishy tail
At the back of the body, draw a curvy leaf shape that sweeps up and away. Close it at the bottom so it joins the body.
Step 7: Eye and smile
Draw a small round dot for the eye near the front of the head. Underneath it, near the front edge of the face, draw a tiny curved smile.
Step 8: Star and horn stripes
Draw a small star on the side of the body. Then add two short curved lines across the horn for stripes.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a unicorn
- Draw the first long line lightly, then trace over it. Then it is easy to fix the neck if it looks wobbly.
- The legs are the trickiest part. Make the gaps between them about the same width and the same height so the unicorn does not lean.
- For the mane, make each bump a little different in size. Bumpy edges look fluffy, and a few mistakes just make it look more natural.

How to color your unicorn drawing
Try a pink or lilac mane and tail with a soft white body, and a golden horn. For a creative twist, color each bump of the mane a different rainbow color.
Unicorn fun fact for kids
The narwhal is a real animal with a long spiral tusk, and people long ago sometimes mistook those tusks for unicorn horns. The tusk is really a very long tooth.
