Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The mug body
Draw two straight lines going down, side by side, for the sides of the mug. Curve them in at the bottom and join them with a smooth, rounded line, like a letter U.
Step 3: The mug handle
On the right side of the mug, draw a big curve that bulges out, like a letter D with its straight side missing. Start and end it on the mug, then add a smaller curve inside it.
Step 4: The top edge
Draw a straight line across the top of the mug, joining the top of the left side to the top of the right side.
Step 5: Whipped cream puffs
Draw a bumpy, puffy line that starts at the left end of the straight line and curls up and over. Do the same on the right end. Leave a gap in the middle for now.
Step 6: Marshmallows
On top of the cream, draw three small rounded squares in a row, a little tilted, with their corners nearly touching. Keep them on the left and middle of the cream.
Step 7: The candy cane
On the right, draw a tall stick that starts at the cream and bends over at the top like a hook, with a flat end. Draw a second line beside it to make it thick.
Step 8: Cute face
In the middle of the mug, draw two little dots for eyes. Add a small smile between them, a bit lower down.
Step 9: Steam swirls
Above the marshmallows, draw two wiggly lines that curl up, a bit like the letter S. They show the cocoa is hot.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a mug of hot cocoa
- Draw the mug first and the cream on top second. If you start with the marshmallows they can end up too big or in the wrong spot.
- The marshmallows are rounded squares, not perfect squares. Round off every corner and let them lean a little so they look soft.
- Draw the candy cane as one thin hooked line first, then trace a second line next to it. This keeps both sides the same width.
