Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The big head
Draw a big, wide oval on the left side of your paper, a little like a squished egg lying on its side. Make it nice and round and leave lots of room on the right.
Step 3: Chest and back line
Start at the bottom right of the head and draw a long, gently curving line straight down for the chest. Then, off to the right, draw a separate line that starts with a little hook at the top, sweeps out to a pointed tail tip, and curves back down.
Step 4: Legs and feet
Finish the bottoms of the legs. Draw two rounded feet at the bottom, one under the chest line and one under the tail line, and connect them with a small arch between the legs.
Step 5: Spiky back
Between the back of the head and the start of the tail, draw a wiggly line of little bumps, like tiny hills in a row.
Step 6: The tiny arm
Just below the head, next to the chest line, draw a short bent line like a little hook. T. rex arms are very small!
Step 7: Belly curve
In the middle of the body, just above the legs, draw a smile-shaped curve to show the round tummy.
Step 8: Eye and nose
Near the top of the head, draw a round dot for the eye and a small curved line above it for an eyebrow. Add a tiny dot near the front of the head for the nostril.
Step 9: Smiling mouth
Draw a long wavy smile across the lower part of the head, from the front of the face back toward the cheek.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a T. rex
- Draw the head oval nice and big. It is the star of this dinosaur, so leave room for the body on the right.
- Make the back spikes by drawing little hills, one after another, instead of sharp triangles. Slow, bumpy wiggles are easier than pointy zigzags.
- Keep the arm very small and close to the chest. Short arms are what make it look like a T. rex.

T. rex fun fact for kids
The name Tyrannosaurus rex comes from Greek and Latin words that mean "tyrant lizard king."
Questions about drawing a T. rex
What shapes do I need to draw a T. rex?
You need a big oval for the head, a long curved line for the chest, and a pointed shape for the tail. Two rounded shapes make the feet, and a few small curves finish the face, back spikes and arm.
How do I make my T. rex look cuter?
Make the head extra big, keep the eye a simple round dot, and draw a wide smile. Short legs and a tiny arm help too.
Why does a T. rex have such tiny arms?
Scientists think its huge head and strong jaws did most of the work, so the arms did not need to be long. They were still strong, even though they were small.
