How to draw a factory step by step

How to Draw a Factory · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Sawtooth building outline

Start at the bottom left and draw a tall line straight up. Then draw three zigzag teeth: slope down, go straight up, and repeat. After the third slope, draw a long flat line to the right and then a line straight down for the right wall.

  2. Step 2: The ground line

Draw one long straight line along the bottom, under the building. Let it stick out a little past both walls so the factory has something to sit on.

  3. Step 3: Two tall chimneys

On the right side of the roof, draw two tall skinny rectangles standing side by side. Make the left one taller than the right one, and let their bottoms rest on the roof.

  4. Step 4: The front door

In the middle of the bottom wall, draw a tall shape with a rounded top and two straight sides. The sides go down to the ground line.

  5. Step 5: The door line

Draw one straight line down the middle of the door, from the top to the ground. Now it looks like two doors that open.

  6. Step 6: Windows on the left

Draw two small squares with rounded corners side by side on the left part of the wall. Keep them the same size and at the same height.

  7. Step 7: Windows on the right

Draw two more rounded squares on the right part of the wall, lined up with the left windows. Leave the door in the middle between the two pairs.

  8. Step 8: Puffy smoke clouds

Above the chimneys, draw three small bumpy clouds. Put the biggest one above the tall chimney, a smaller one above the short chimney, and the smallest one floating higher up between them.

  9. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a factory

  • Draw the zigzag roof slowly. Make each slanted line go down, then go straight up, and try to keep the three points about the same height.
  • Use the ground line to line things up. Let the door sit right on it, and keep all four windows the same height so the wall looks tidy.
  • Draw the clouds last with small round bumps. Make them different sizes so the smoke looks like it is floating away.

How to color your factory drawing

Try a red brick color for the walls, gray for the chimneys, and light blue for the windows. For a creative twist, color the smoke clouds pink and purple, as if the factory makes cotton candy.

Factory fun fact for kids

The zigzag roof on many old factories is called a sawtooth roof. The steep side of each tooth had windows that let in soft daylight, so workers could see well before electric lights were common.
