How to draw a beet step by step

How to Draw a Beet · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The round beet

Draw a big wide oval for the beet. Make the bottom come down to a little pointed tip, like a tiny tail.

  3. Step 3: The left leaf

Above the beet, a little left of the middle, draw a leaf shape like a pointy lemon. Leave a small gap between the leaf and the beet.

  4. Step 4: The right leaf

Draw a second leaf on the right, a bit taller than the first. Start it where the left leaf ends, and give it a pointed tip at the top right.

  5. Step 5: Stems and leaf veins

Draw two curvy lines from the top of the beet up into the middle of each leaf. Then add two short little branches at the top of each line, like a tiny arrow.

  6. Step 6: The eyes

Draw two round dots in the middle of the beet. Keep them far apart and at the same height, and fill them in.

  7. Step 7: The smile

Between the eyes and a little lower, draw a tiny wiggly smile. Make it small, like a short squiggle.

  8. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a beet

  • Make the oval wider than it is tall. A wide beet looks round and cuddly.
  • The leaves are the trickiest part. Start each one at its pointed tip, then curve around in one smooth line.
  • Draw the eyes first and the smile second. Keep the smile small and low so the face looks sweet.

How to color your beet drawing

Try deep purple-red for the beet and two shades of green for the leaves. You could also color the stems a lighter green than the leaves.

Beet fun fact for kids

Beets are root vegetables, so the round part grows under the soil while the leafy tops stick out above it. The leaves, called beet greens, are edible too.

Questions about drawing a beet

What shapes do I need to draw a beet?

You need a wide oval for the body and two pointy leaf shapes for the top. Add two curved lines for the stems with short branches for veins, plus two dots and a tiny smile for the face.

How do I make my beet look cuter?

Put the eyes wide apart and the smile small and low. Round, simple shapes make it feel friendly.

Why does my beet look lopsided?

Try sketching the oval lightly first and fix it before you draw it again with a firm line. Drawing it in one slow curve, from the top around each side, helps a lot.
