  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: The head and ears

Draw a big circle for the head, a little wider than it is tall. Add two pointy triangle ears on top, with their bottom corners tucked into the circle.

  3. Step 3: The big eyes

Draw two large circles side by side in the middle of the face. Leave a small gap between them and keep them about the same size.

  4. Step 4: Pupils and beak

Put a small round dot inside each eye. Then draw a tiny rounded drop shape between the eyes for the beak.

  5. Step 5: The body and wings

Under the head, draw the sides of a round tummy that start just below the chin and curve down. Add a long oval wing on each side, and draw a tiny heart near the top of each wing.

  6. Step 6: Two little feet

At the bottom of the body, draw a flat oval on the left and another on the right. They should touch the bottom of the tummy.

  7. Step 7: Hearts on the tummy

Draw four small hearts on the tummy: one near the top, two side by side in the middle, and one at the bottom. Start each one with two tiny bumps on top and finish with a point at the bottom.

  8. Step 8: The heart balloon

Next to the owl's head, draw a heart. Then add a wavy string hanging from the point of the heart down to the owl's wing.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a Valentine owl

  • Draw the head circle first and lightly, so you can place both ears on it and see how big the eyes can be.
  • Make the two big eye circles the same size by drawing them side by side, one right after the other, and leave a small gap between them for the beak.
  • Tiny hearts are the trickiest part. Draw two small bumps on top, then bring both sides down to one point, and do not worry if they come out a little wobbly.

How to color your Valentine owl drawing

Try warm browns for the body, pink and red for the hearts, and yellow for the beak. For a creative twist, color each tummy heart a different shade, like a rainbow of valentines.

Valentine owl fun fact for kids

Owls cannot move their eyes in their sockets, so they turn their whole heads instead. An owl can swivel its head about 270 degrees, which is roughly three quarters of the way around.
