  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The big rainbow

Draw a big upside-down U shape, like a wide curved bridge, across the top of your page. Leave room below it for the kid.

  3. Step 3: Two more arches

Draw two more arches inside the first one, each a little smaller. Keep the same space between each arch so they look like rainbow stripes.

  4. Step 4: The top of the head

Under the rainbow, draw one more small arch, like a little rainbow. This is the top of the kid's round head.

  5. Step 5: The body and feet

Below the head, draw a short body shaped like a rounded box. Add a small box at the bottom for a foot.

  6. Step 6: Arms and other foot

Draw two long skinny arms that start at the shoulders and stretch up and out toward the rainbow. Add the second small box at the bottom of the body for the other foot.

  7. Step 7: Clouds and hands

At each end of the rainbow, draw a puffy cloud with a bumpy top and a flat bottom. Finish each arm with a tiny circle for a hand where it meets the rainbow.

  8. Step 8: Face and button

Add two small dots for eyes. Draw a curvy smile under them, like a little bowl, and put one round dot on the middle of the body for a button.

  9. Step 9: Belt line

Draw a gently curved line across the lower part of the body, like a belt.

  10. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid with a rainbow

  • Draw the biggest rainbow arch first, then make each new arch a little smaller so they nest neatly inside each other.
  • Keep the arms thin and let them lean outward as they go up. The little circle at the end of each arm makes the hands look like they are holding the rainbow.
  • Draw the clouds at the ends of the rainbow with a bumpy top and a flat bottom. Fit them right where the arches end.
