How to Draw a Farmer (Easy Step by Step)
A farmer in a big straw hat is a friendly character, and the body is built mostly from simple shapes like ovals, a U shape and a rounded box. If you can draw a ball and a box, you can draw this farmer. The pitchfork and the smiling face are what make the picture look like a real farmer.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The round head
Draw a big U shape for the head, curving down from the left, around the bottom and back up on the right. Leave the top open, since the hat will cover it.
Step 3: The overalls
Under the head, draw a rounded box for the body. Start the top line where the bottom of the head ends, then draw down the sides and across the bottom.
Step 4: The big hat
Draw a wide, flat oval across the top of the head for the hat brim. Add a small dome on top with a curved band around the bottom of the dome. Finish with a short slanted line sticking out from each end of the brim.
Step 5: Face, arms and straps
Draw two little dot eyes and a small smile on the face. Add an arm on each side of the body, with a tiny curled hand at the end of each one. Then add short straps and a curved neckline at the top of the overalls, with little pocket lines and two short leg stubs at the bottom.
Step 6: Chunky buttons
Draw a small, chunky button where each strap meets the top of the overalls.
Step 7: Feet
At the bottom of the two leg stubs, draw two flat ovals for shoes, side by side and just touching.
Step 8: The pitchfork
Draw a tall straight line beside the farmer, passing through the hand on the right. At the top, draw a U shape with a short line going up from each side and one in the middle to make three prongs.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a farmer
- Draw the hat brim as a long, flat oval that is wider than the head. It should cover the open top of the head, so draw the head first.
- For the pitchfork, draw the tall middle line first, then add the U shape at the top. A ruler or the edge of a book can help keep it straight.
- Put the two eyes at the same height and a little far apart. Then draw the smile centered between them so the face looks sweet.

Straw hats are light and airy because straw is made from the dry, hollow stems of grains like wheat.
