Step 1: Center, petal starts, stem
Draw a circle near the top of your page for the middle of the flower. Add short little lines sticking out around the circle, a rounded petal shape hanging below it, and a long straight stem going down from that petal.
Step 2: The top petals
Draw three rounded petals across the top of the circle. Each one is a fat loop that starts at one of the little lines and comes back down to the next.
Step 3: The side petals
Draw four more petals, two on the left and two on the right, so the flower looks like a round daisy. Make each one a fat loop that joins the little lines beside it.
Step 4: Two leaves
Draw a pointy oval leaf on each side of the stem, near the bottom. Start each leaf at the stem and sweep it up and out to a point.
Step 5: The pot rim
Draw a wide rectangle with rounded corners across the bottom of the stem. This is the top edge of the flower pot.
Step 6: The pot
Under the rim, draw two slanted lines that go down and a little toward each other. Join them at the bottom with a flat line and soft corners.
Step 7: A happy face
Draw two small dots for eyes in the middle of the pot. Between them, a little lower, draw a curved smile.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a flower in a pot
- Draw the center circle first and keep it a little smaller than you think. The petals need room to fit around it.
- Think of each petal as a fat teardrop with the thin end touching the circle. If a petal looks wobbly, that is fine, since real petals are never exactly the same.
- Make the pot rim wider than the pot body, and draw the two sides leaning in toward the bottom. Put the face in the middle so it sits nicely between the sides.

How to color your flower in a pot drawing
Try yellow or pink petals with an orange center, green leaves and stem, and a terracotta pot. For a fun twist, give every petal a different color so the flower looks like a rainbow.
Flower in a pot fun fact for kids
Many flower pots are made of terracotta, a word that means "baked earth" in Italian. The clay is baked in a very hot oven called a kiln, which turns it hard and orange-brown.
