How to Draw a Beehive (Easy Step by Step)
A beehive is a cozy, round home, and it is fun to draw because it is mostly stacked curves. You only need a half circle for the top, a few long lines for the straw bands, and a small arch for the door. A leafy branch above and two little bees buzzing nearby make it feel alive.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The hive dome
Near the top of the page, draw a big half circle, like a rounded hill. Close the bottom with a short, nearly flat line.
Step 3: The hive sides
From each end of the dome's flat bottom line, draw a bumpy line that curves out wider as it goes down. Join the two sides with a flat line along the bottom.
Step 4: The straw bands
Draw three long lines across the hive, one under another, from the left side to the right side. Each one gets a little longer than the one above it.
Step 5: The little door
At the bottom middle, draw an upside-down U, like a tiny arched doorway. Let both ends touch the bottom line.
Step 6: Branch and stem
Above the hive, draw a long gently wavy line from the left to the right for the branch. Then draw a short straight line from the middle of the branch down to the top of the dome.
Step 7: The two leaves
Under the branch, draw a pointy oval leaf on each side of the stem. Start each one at the branch and let it dangle down, like a lemon shape.
Step 8: Two bee bodies
Draw a small round ring for a bee body on each side of the hive, one up high on the right and one lower on the left. Leave a tiny gap in the top of each ring.
Step 9: Wings, stripes and dots
On each bee, draw a little hooked wing loop at the top and a short line down the middle of the body. Add a tiny dot inside each body, then a few small dots in the air to show the bees buzzing.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a beehive
- Draw the dome first and keep its bottom line short, so the sides of the hive have a clear place to start.
- Make each band slightly longer than the one above it. The hive then widens toward the bottom and looks sturdy.
- For the bees, draw the small body first and add the wing loop, stripe and dots after. Tiny details are easiest last.

How to color your beehive drawing
Try golden yellow and warm orange for the hive, with green leaves and a brown branch. For a twist, color each straw band a different shade of honey, from pale to deep amber.
Beehive fun fact for kids
A worker honey bee makes only about one twelfth of a teaspoon of honey in its whole life.
Questions about drawing a beehive
What shapes do I need to draw a beehive?
A half circle for the top, long lines across for the bands, and an upside-down U for the door. The sides are just two bumpy lines that flare out toward the bottom.
How do I make my beehive look cuter?
Make the bees small and round, and add a few dots in the air so they look like they are buzzing. A wobbly, uneven set of bands also gives the hive a friendly, handmade look.
How do I draw a simple bee?
Draw a small round body, add a little loop on top for a wing, then a line down the middle and a dot inside. That is all a bee needs.
