Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Head and ears
Draw the top of a round, wide head, starting at one side and curving up. Add two pointy triangle ears on top with a little dip between them, then curve down the other side and stop at the cheeks.
Step 3: Round body
Starting at the bottom of each cheek, draw the sides of a big round belly. Finish the bottom with two small rounded feet and a gentle curve between them.
Step 4: The wings
On each side of the body, draw a big wing that starts at the body, goes up to a point, then curves down and out. Finish the bottom edge with wavy scallops that come back to the body.
Step 5: Wing bones
Inside each wing, draw one long, slightly curved line from near the top point down toward the bottom edge of the wing.
Step 6: The eyes
Draw two big round dots for eyes in the middle of the face, with a small gap between them. Color them in.
Step 7: The little smile
Between the eyes and a bit lower, draw a tiny wavy smile like a small letter w.
Step 8: Tiny arms
On the belly, draw two small hook shapes like the letter J, one on each side. The left one curves like a J and the right one is its mirror image.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a vampire bat
- Draw the head and body as light ovals first, so the wings have a clear place to start where the two shapes meet.
- Make the two wings match by drawing the top point of each wing at the same height before you add the scalloped bottom edges.
- Keep the two eyes the same size and fill them in with a marker so they look nice and dark.
