Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Cat head and ears
Draw a rounded head shape with straight sides and a curved bottom, like a soft shield. Put a pointy triangle ear at each top corner, with a small dip between them.
Step 3: The box
Below the head, draw a wide U shape: two straight sides going down and a bottom line joining them with rounded corners. Leave the top open.
Step 4: Top edge of the box
Draw a short straight line going inward from each top corner of the box. Leave a big gap in the middle between the two lines.
Step 5: Open box flaps
At each top corner of the box, draw a slanted flap that leans outward, like an open door. Give each flap a rounded outer corner.
Step 6: Paws on the edge
Draw two small ovals sitting on the top edge of the box, one on each side of the middle. Join them with a short straight line between them.
Step 7: Face and whiskers
Draw two round dots for eyes in the middle of the face. Add a small nose with a little curve under it for a smile, then draw two short whisker lines on each side of the face.
Step 8: The box handle
In the middle of the front of the box, draw a long rounded slot, like a pill shape. It is a handle hole for carrying the box.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a cat in a box
- Keep the two top edge lines of the box level with each other so the cat looks like it is sitting inside.
- The two paws are the trickiest part. Make them the same size by drawing the first oval, then matching it on the other side.
- Keep the eyes wide apart and the nose small. Draw the whiskers short so they stay beside the face.
