How to Draw a Sandcastle (Easy Step by Step)
A sandcastle is a fun beach drawing because it is built from rectangles, with a few square bumps and an arch. Add a flag, a bucket, a shovel and a smiling starfish and you have a whole day at the beach on one page. Each shape is simple, so kids can build it up one piece at a time.

Step 1: The tall tower
Draw a tall tower with straight sides, like a long upside-down U with a flat bottom left open. At the top, make two square bumps with a small dip between them, like a crown.
Step 2: Side towers and wall
Draw a long flat line across the bottom that passes under the tall tower. Then build a shorter tower on each side, with the inner sides touching the tall tower. Give each side tower two square bumps on top.
Step 3: The flag
Start at the middle of the tall tower's top and draw a straight line going up. At the top, draw a pointy flag shape that waves to the right.
Step 4: Door and windows
Draw a small circle window near the top of the tall tower. Below it, draw an arch for the door that starts and ends on the bottom line. Add a short, thin straight line as a window on each side tower.
Step 5: The bucket
Draw a small bucket in the bottom left corner. Start with a wide oval for the top, add a curved line under it for the rim, then draw the sides sloping inward to a curved bottom.
Step 6: The shovel
Draw a slanted line for the handle, with a little curl at the top. At the bottom, draw a tilted oval for the scoop.
Step 7: The starfish
In the bottom right corner, draw a star with five soft, rounded points. Make the corners curvy instead of sharp.
Step 8: Starfish face
Add two little dots for eyes in the middle of the star. Underneath, draw a small smile.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a sandcastle
- Draw the tall tower first and keep its sides straight. Then the side towers will line up with it easily.
- For the bumps on top of the towers, draw them as little squares with equal gaps. Count them as you go so both side towers match.
- The starfish points can wobble. Draw the star lightly first, then go over it with soft curves for the rounded tips.

How to color your sandcastle drawing
Use sandy yellow and tan for the castle, red for the flag, and bright blue or pink for the bucket and shovel. Color the starfish orange. For a creative twist, add a blue sea with waves behind the castle, or draw tiny shells in the sand.
Sandcastle fun fact for kids
Sand sculptors mix sand with water so the grains stick together. Damp sand holds its shape much better than dry sand, which is why castles are built from wet sand.
Questions about drawing a sandcastle
What shapes do I need to draw a sandcastle?
You mostly need rectangles for the towers and walls, a small circle for the window, and an arch for the door. Little squares along the top make the bumps that look like castle battlements.
How do I make my sandcastle look more like a real castle?
Add square bumps along the top of each tower, a flag on the tallest one, and thin windows on the side towers. An arched door makes it feel like a real castle gate.
How do I draw a bucket that looks round?
Start with an oval for the top, then draw the sides curving down and in toward a flatter bottom. A curved line under the top edge makes the rim and helps it look like a real beach bucket.
