  1. Step 1: The walls

Draw a tall U shape: a straight line across the bottom, with a line going straight up from each end. Leave the top open for the roof.

  2. Step 2: The roof

Draw a flat line across the top of the walls that sticks out a little on each side. Then draw two slanted lines from the ends up to a point in the middle to make a big triangle.

  3. Step 3: The chimney

On the right side of the roof, draw a small tall rectangle that sits on the slanted line.

  4. Step 4: Puffs of smoke

Above the chimney, draw a wavy squiggle that curls up into the sky like a lazy letter S.

  5. Step 5: The front door

On the left side of the wall, start at the bottom line and draw two straight lines going up. Join them at the top with a round curve like a rainbow.

  6. Step 6: The windows

Draw a square on the left side of the wall and another square on the right side, the same size. Leave the middle empty.

  7. Step 7: Window panes

Inside each window, draw one line straight across and one line straight down so it makes four small panes.

  8. Step 8: The path

Start at the bottom corners of the door and draw two curved lines that sweep outward and down, like a road leading to the house.

  9. Step 9: The doorknob

Add a small round dot on the right side of the door for the doorknob.

  10. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a house

  • Draw the roof line so it sticks out past the walls on both sides. This little overhang makes the house look cozy and finished.
  • The chimney sits on a slanted line, so draw the roof first. Then add the chimney as a small box sitting on the slope.
  • For the door, draw the two straight sides first and then connect them with one smooth curve. Try tracing the curve in the air before you draw it.

House fun fact for kids

Many houses in rainy or snowy places have steep, pointed roofs so that rain and snow slide off instead of piling up on top.
