How to Draw a Submarine (Easy Step by Step)
A submarine is a fun thing to draw because it is built from just a few simple shapes: a big oval, a box, circles and a couple of thin loops. Once you can draw those, you can build a whole boat that travels under the sea. The bubbles at the end make it look like it is really underwater.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The big body
Draw a big wide oval lying on its side, like a squished egg. Leave a small gap at the top in the middle, where the tower will sit.
Step 3: The tower
On top of the body, draw a short box with rounded top corners. Start at one side of the gap in the oval, go up, across, and down to the other side of the gap.
Step 4: The periscope
From the middle of the tower's flat top, draw a straight line up. Then turn the corner and draw a short line to the right, like an upside down letter L.
Step 5: Three round windows
Draw three small circles in a row across the middle of the body. Try to make them the same size with the same space between them.
Step 6: The back fin
On the top right of the body, draw a narrow, pointed shape that leans to the right, like a slim leaf. Its bottom edge sits on the body.
Step 7: The propeller
Draw a short line sticking out from the right side of the body. At its end, draw two long, thin loops, one pointing up and one pointing down, that meet in the middle like a bow tie turned sideways.
Step 8: Bubbles
In the empty space above the left end of the submarine, draw three small circles of different sizes, one above the other like bubbles floating up.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a submarine
- Start the oval wide and low. A long, flat oval looks more like a submarine than a round one.
- Draw the middle window first, then add one on each side. It is easier to space them evenly that way.
- The propeller is the trickiest part. Draw two skinny loops that meet at one point, and make the top one and the bottom one about the same size.

How to color your submarine drawing
Try a bright yellow body with blue windows, and a green tower and fin. For a creative twist, color the background deep blue and add little fish swimming past the windows.
Submarine fun fact for kids
A submarine can use a periscope, a tube with mirrors inside, so the crew can look at the surface while the boat stays hidden underwater.
