How to Draw a Kite (Easy Step by Step)
A kite is a fun first drawing because it is mostly straight lines and one big diamond. Add a smiling face, a wiggly tail, and some little bow ties, and your kite looks ready to fly. You only need a diamond, a few lines, two dots, and a curve.

Step 1: The diamond shape
Draw a big diamond like a tilted square with softly rounded corners. Start at the top point, go down and out to the left and right corners, then bring both lines in to meet at the bottom point.
Step 2: The cross sticks
Draw a straight line from the left corner to the right corner across the middle. Then draw a line from the top point straight down until it meets that line.
Step 3: A happy face
In the lower half of the diamond, draw two small round dots for eyes. Under them, add a little curved smile like a bowl.
Step 4: The wiggly tail line
Start just below the smile and draw a short straight line down toward the bottom point. Keep going past the point with a small wiggly line that curves down below the kite.
Step 5: Bow ties on the tail
Draw three little bows along the wiggly tail, one below the other. Each bow is two small triangles that touch point to point, like a sideways bow tie, with the tail line passing through the middle.
Step 6: The flying string
Start on the left edge of the lower half of the diamond. Draw a long, gentle curved line sweeping down and to the left, like a string for a child to hold.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kite
- Make the diamond first and keep it big. A lopsided diamond is fine, since real kites flop in the wind too.
- The tail is the trickiest part. Draw the wiggly line first, then add each bow along it so the bows stay lined up.
- For each bow, draw two small triangles pointing at each other. It is easier than trying to draw the whole bow in one go.

How to color your kite drawing
Color each of the three sections of the kite a different bright color, like red, yellow, and blue. For a twist, give every bow on the tail a different pattern, such as stripes or polka dots.
