How to Draw a Scarecrow (Easy Step by Step)
A scarecrow is a friendly drawing made from simple shapes: a round head, a wide oval hat brim, and a rounded shirt with big sleeves. Straw sticking out of the sleeves and under the shirt, plus a smiling face, gives it lots of personality. It is a good project for beginners because every part is easy to draw.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Sides of the head
Draw two curved lines that bulge outward, like a pair of parentheses, with a gap between them. They are the left and right sides of the scarecrow's round head.
Step 3: The hat
Draw a long, flat oval across the top of the head for the hat brim. Then add a dome shape on top of the brim, like a half circle.
Step 4: Chin and shirt
Draw a short curved line to join the bottom of the head for the chin. Then draw the lower edge of the shirt: start at the far left, go in to the body, down, across the bottom, up the other side and out to the far right.
Step 5: Shoulders and sleeves
Draw a curved line from the neck out to the end of each sleeve, and bend it down a little at the end. Now each arm has a top line that meets the line below it.
Step 6: Straw hands
At the end of each sleeve, draw three short lines that fan out like sticks of straw.
Step 7: Pole, straw and marks
Under the shirt, draw a few short curvy lines for straw. Then draw a tall, narrow shape with a round bottom for the pole in the middle. Add one short slash and two tiny dots on the shirt.
Step 8: A happy face
Add two small dots for eyes in the middle of the head. Draw a little curved smile below them.
Step 9: The patch
Draw a square with rounded corners around the short slash on the shirt to make a patch.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a scarecrow
- Draw the hat brim as a long, thin oval, and make it wider than the head so the head peeks out underneath.
- The sleeves are the trickiest part. Make the top line of each sleeve about as long as the bottom line so the arms look even.
- Make the straw lines curve a little and have different lengths, so they look messy and fun instead of neat.
