How to Draw a Rocket (Easy Step by Step)
A rocket blasting off is a great first space drawing because it is made of simple shapes: a tall pointy body, a circle window, two leaf-shaped fins and a teardrop of fire. Tilting the rocket makes it look like it is zooming across the sky. Three little stars fill the empty space.

Step 1: The rocket body
Draw a tall, pointy arch like an upside-down U, leaning a little to the right. Leave the bottom open for now.
Step 2: The nose cone
Near the pointy top, draw a short curved line from one side of the body to the other, like a gentle smile. This cuts off the tip of the rocket.
Step 3: The round window
Draw a circle in the upper middle of the body, a little above halfway down.
Step 4: The two fins
On each side of the body, near the bottom, draw a curved leaf shape that sticks out like a wing. Start and end each one on the side of the body.
Step 5: Bottom band and nozzle
Close the bottom of the body with a slightly slanted line across. Under it, draw a small box shape that gets a bit narrower toward the bottom, and add a tiny oval below the box.
Step 6: The flame
Under the nozzle, draw a big teardrop with its point facing down. Start at one side of the nozzle, curve out and down to the point, then back up to the other side. The tiny oval ends up inside it.
Step 7: Twinkly stars
Around the rocket, draw three little stars. Make each one a diamond with curved sides.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a rocket
- Draw the body very lightly first. The tilted arch is the trickiest part, so sketch it a few times until the sides look smooth.
- Make the two fins match by starting both at the same height on the body and giving them the same rounded shape.
- Draw the flame as a teardrop that is wider than the nozzle, so it looks like it is bursting out. The tiny oval goes inside it.

How to color your rocket drawing
Try a red or blue body with a yellow window, and orange and yellow for the flame. For a creative twist, color the stars in rainbow colors or add a purple night sky behind the rocket.
Rocket fun fact for kids
The pointed top of a rocket is called the nose cone. It helps the rocket slice through the air as it climbs.
Questions about drawing a rocket
What shapes do I need to draw a rocket?
You need a tall pointy arch for the body, a circle for the window, two curved leaf shapes for the fins, and a teardrop for the flame. Diamonds with curved sides make the stars.
How do I make my rocket look like it is flying?
Tilt the whole rocket so it leans to one side, and draw the flame pointing down and away from the nose. Adding a few stars around it helps too.
How can I make my rocket look cuter?
Make the window big and round, give the fins soft curves, and add a few extra stars. A bigger flame also makes it look lively.
