Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The bent hat
Draw a tall cone with the tip folding over to one side, and add a short crease line on the fold. Close the bottom with a wide, curvy brim that sticks out on both sides.
Step 3: The beard
Under the brim, draw two wavy lines that curve down from each side of the face and meet in a point at the bottom. Make the bottom edge bumpy, like fluffy whiskers.
Step 4: The mustache and face
Just under the brim, draw a wide U shape with straight sides for the mustache and face opening. Add a tiny tab sticking out on each side.
Step 5: Eyes and mouth
Draw a solid round dot for one eye and a short straight dash for the winking eye. Add a small tab on the right side of the face and a little upside-down curve below for a grumpy mouth.
Step 6: Robe, arms and belt
Under the beard, draw a robe that is narrower at the top and wider at the bottom, with an arm hanging down on each side. Close the bottom with a straight belt line, then draw one tall block under it for a leg and boot.
Step 7: The hands
At the end of the right arm, draw a little hook shaped like the letter C. On the left, draw a small bracket shape for the hand that will hold the staff.
Step 8: The other leg and boots
Under the belt, draw the second tall block next to the first leg. Add a flat line across the bottom of each leg to make two boots.
Step 9: The wizard staff
Draw a tall, skinny stick that passes through the left hand. Put a round loop on top like a lollipop and round off the bottom end.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing Vitruvius from The LEGO Movie
- Draw the hat brim as a wide, curvy shape, then pull the cone up from the middle. Bend the tip over last.
- Keep the beard as one pointed shape with a bumpy bottom edge. Slow, small wiggles make the whiskers look fluffy.
- Draw the staff last. Pull your pencil in one slow line so the stick stays straight.
