How to Draw Superman (Easy Step by Step)
This little superhero has a big round head, a raised fist, and a flowing cape, so it is a great way to practice circles, curves, and one shield shape. Everything is built from simple rounded forms that a young artist can sketch lightly first and trace over with confidence.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The round head
Draw a big rounded shape for the head, a bit wider at the cheeks. Make the bottom a soft curve that becomes the chin, and leave a small gap at the top right.
Step 3: Hair and curl
Draw a wavy line across the forehead for the hair edge. Then add the spiky fringe on the right and a little curl poking up on top.
Step 4: Ears and face
Draw a small half circle on each side of the head for the ears. Add two round dots for eyes and a tiny wiggly smile in the middle.
Step 5: The raised arm
Draw a rounded fist beside the head on the left, then a long curve down the left side from the fist to the waist. Add a short curve under the head for the shoulder.
Step 6: The fist
Add a few little wiggly lines on the fist to show the fingers curled in.
Step 7: The flowing cape
Start at the right of the neck and draw a big curve down the right side for the cape, ending in a wavy bottom edge. On the left, draw a flat pointed triangle for the cape hanging behind the arm.
Step 8: Shield, S and belt
Draw a shield shape on the chest, flat on top with a point at the bottom, and add a big curvy S inside it. Then draw a wavy line out from each side of the shield for the belt, and two short wavy lines below for the bottom edge of the suit.
Step 9: Legs and boots
Draw two short lines going down from the bottom of the suit for the legs. Then draw a rounded oval boot at the bottom of each leg.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing Superman
- Draw the head first and keep it big and round. The cute look comes from a head that is nearly as wide as the body.
- The fist is the trickiest part. Start with a simple rounded blob, then add the tiny finger squiggles last.
- Sketch the shield lightly before the S. Make the shield's two sides match, then center the S in the middle.
