Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Wavy square outline
Draw a big square with slightly wobbly sides, like a slice of sponge. Make a wavy line across the top and wavy lines down the left and right sides, and leave the bottom open for now.
Step 3: Pants and belt
Near the bottom, draw a wavy line straight across between the two sides for the top of the pants. Add a straight line below it to close the square, then draw a small diamond in the middle for the buckle.
Step 4: The big eyes
Draw two large circles side by side in the upper middle of the face. Keep them the same size and leave a little space between them.
Step 5: Pupils and nose
Fill in a solid dark circle inside each eye. Then draw a small oval nose in the middle, just below and between the eyes.
Step 6: Smile and teeth
Draw a wide, gently curved smile under the nose, like a shallow bowl. Hang two little rectangles from the middle of the smile for the buck teeth.
Step 7: Sleeves
On each side of the body, near the pants, draw a small curved triangle for the sleeve. Tuck the top tip against the body and let the bottom end in a short line for the cuff.
Step 8: Arms and hands
From each sleeve, draw two short lines going down for a skinny arm. Finish each arm with a small round fist at the bottom.
Step 9: Socks and legs
Under the pants, draw two small cup shapes for the socks, one on each side of the buckle. Then add two short, thin lines hanging down from each sock to make skinny legs.
Step 10: Big shoes
At the bottom of each leg, draw a rounded shoe shaped like a flat bean, a little wider than the leg. Fill the shoes in solid dark when you finish.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing SpongeBob SquarePants
- Draw the square body lightly first, then go over the wobbly edges. Slightly wavy lines look more like a sponge than perfectly straight ones.
- The two eyes should be about the same size. Draw the left eye, then match it with the right one at the same height, leaving room for the nose between them.
- Draw the arms and legs as thin lines. Keeping them skinny makes the square body look big and silly, which is part of his charm.

SpongeBob SquarePants fun fact for kids
Real sea sponges are animals, not plants. They have no brain or stomach, and they live attached to the ocean floor, filtering tiny bits of food out of the water.
Questions about drawing SpongeBob SquarePants
What shapes do I need to draw SpongeBob?
You need a big square for the body, two circles for the eyes, a small oval for the nose, and a curved line for the smile. Two small rectangles make the teeth, and flat bean shapes make the shoes.
How do I make my SpongeBob look more like a sponge?
Make the edges of the body slightly wavy instead of straight. Wobbly lines on the top and sides give the body a soft, squishy look.

Draw a wide, gently curved smile that is about as wide as the two eyes together. Round dark pupils placed in the middle of the eyes make him look cheerful.
