Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Head and ears
Draw a big rounded head shape with a tall, domed top. Add a small round bump on each side for the ears.
Step 3: Cap brim
Draw a curved band across the front of the head, low on the forehead, for the brim of the cap. Make it a flat, wide curve with the ends tucked in at the sides.
Step 4: The M badge
In the middle of the cap above the brim, draw a small letter M with rounded strokes.
Step 5: Eyes and mouth
Draw two round dots for the eyes, side by side in the middle of the face. Between them and a little lower, add a tiny curved line for the mouth.
Step 6: Mustache and neck
Draw a big curly mustache across the middle of the face, like two wavy wings meeting under a small round nose. Under the chin, add two short straight lines going down for the neck, with a short slanted dash out to each side.
Step 7: Arms and gloves
Draw a long curved line from each side of the neck, sloping down and out to make the arms. Finish each arm with a small round glove at the bottom.
Step 8: The overalls
Draw a wide rounded shape between the arms, below the chin, for the overalls. Close it with a flat line along the bottom.
Step 9: Straps and buttons
Draw a straight line across between the two neck lines to join the straps. Add a small round loop for a button at the bottom of each strap.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing Mario from Super Mario
- Draw the head shape first and keep it big. The cap, ears, and mustache all fit on it, so a good head makes everything else easier.
- The mustache is the trickiest part. Sketch two wavy wing shapes that meet under the nose, then fill them in with dark color.
- Make the two arms and the two straps match. Check that they sit about the same distance from the middle of the body.
