Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Head and neck
Draw a big circle for the head. Then draw two wiggly lines that start at the bottom of the circle and curve down to make the long neck. Leave the bottom of the neck open.
Step 3: The wide hood
Draw a big curved arch around the top of the head, like a wide umbrella. Let each side flare out into a rounded corner, then curve back in to meet the neck.
Step 4: The left coil
Near the bottom, draw a round loop on the left side of the neck. Start at the left side of the neck, curve out and around, and end at the bottom of the neck.
Step 5: The right coil
On the right side, start at the bottom of the neck and sweep out in a big curve. Curve up and around, then end with a little curl that tucks in toward the neck.
Step 6: The eyes
Draw two small oval eyes inside the head circle, side by side. Leave space between them for a smile.
Step 7: The tiny smile
Draw a tiny wavy smile between the eyes, a little below them. Then add a short curved line on the left coil, starting at the neck, to show the body folding.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a cobra
- The hood is the trickiest part. Draw one wide arch over the head first, then add a rounded corner on each side so both sides match.
- Let the neck wiggle slowly. Fast, tight wiggles make the body look lumpy.
- Draw the coils as round loops that start at the neck, and leave the little curl on the right so it looks like the body goes around.

How to color your cobra drawing
Try green or golden brown for the body with a lighter belly, and a bright color like orange or purple inside the hood. For a creative twist, give your cobra polka dots or zigzag stripes along its coils.
Cobra fun fact for kids
A cobra spreads its hood by moving the long ribs behind its head outward. It does this to look bigger when it feels threatened.
