Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Moon and wing tip
Draw a big circle for the moon, but leave a small gap on the left side. On the right, draw a rounded leaf-shaped tip that pokes out past the edge of the moon. This is the top of the bat's right wing.
Step 3: The round head
In the middle of the moon, draw a medium circle for the bat's head. Its right side touches the wing line you just drew.
Step 4: The body
Under the head, draw two curved lines that bow outward and meet near the bottom, like the sides of an egg. Add a tiny tick on each side.
Step 5: Ears and feet
On top of the head, draw two pointy ears with curved sides. Then draw a short bar with two little legs at the bottom of the body for feet.
Step 6: Left wing and sparkle
On the left, draw a leaf-shaped wing that matches the right one, starting at the head. Then draw a long line from the body out to the right wing's lower edge, ending in a curve. Add a small diamond sparkle above the moon on the left.
Step 7: Lower wings
Under each big wing, draw two straight lines that fan out from the body. Join their ends with a curved line to make the scalloped bottom of the wing.
Step 8: Face
Draw two small dots for eyes in the middle of the head. Under them, add a short straight line for the mouth.
Step 9: Craters and sparkle
Draw three small circles of different sizes on the moon for craters. Finish with a tiny diamond sparkle at the bottom right, outside the moon.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a bat flying past the moon
- Draw the moon first and keep it big, so the wings have plenty of room to stretch out.
- Make the two top wings match by starting each one at the same height on the head and ending at the same point near the edge of the moon.
- The face is simple: two dots and a short line. Keep your pencil light so you can fix the eyes if they come out uneven.

Bats are the only mammals that can truly fly. Their wings are made of thin skin stretched over very long finger bones.
Questions about drawing a bat flying past the moon
What shapes do I need to draw a bat and moon?
You need circles for the moon, head, and craters, an egg shape for the body, pointy ears, and leaf shapes for the wings. Straight lines fan out under the wings.
How do I make my bat look cuter?
Draw the eyes wide apart and the mouth small. Round ears and a chubby round head also help a lot.
How do I draw the wings so they look even?
Draw one wing, then copy the same starting point, height, and tip on the other side. Looking at the picture upside down can help you spot any lopsided parts.
