Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The round rock
Draw a big circle in the lower right of your paper. This is the head of the meteor, so make it nice and round.
Step 3: The long tail
Draw three long, pointy flame shapes streaming away from the top left of the circle, like leaves. Start each one at the circle, sweep out to a sharp tip, and curve back to the circle.
Step 4: Face and craters
Inside the circle, draw two small dots for eyes and a little curved smile below them. Then add two small rings for craters, one near the top right and one near the bottom right.
Step 5: Twinkly stars
Draw a little five-point star in the top right corner and another in the bottom left corner of your paper.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a meteor
- Draw the big circle first and lightly, so the tail has a clear place to start.
- For each tail flame, draw a curved line out to a sharp tip, then curve back to the circle. The tips look best when they all point the same way.
- Keep the eyes small and the smile short so the face stays friendly and the craters have room.
- Draw each star as a small rounded shape with five points, one point at a time.

How to color your meteor drawing
Try a fiery orange and yellow for the tail with a gray or brown rock. For a twist, color the sky deep blue and make the stars glow with yellow crayon.
Meteor fun fact for kids
A meteor is the streak of light you see when a small bit of space rock burns up as it speeds through Earth's air. Most of those rocks are only about the size of a grain of sand or a pebble.
