Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The round head
Draw a big, round shape for the head, starting near the top on one side, curving down around the bottom, and back up the other side. Leave the top open, because the hat will cover it.
Step 3: The tall top hat
Draw a long, flat oval across the top of the head for the brim. Then add a tall box with rounded corners standing on the brim, and a curved band across the bottom of the box.
Step 4: Collar and coat
Under the chin, draw a small V shape for the collar. Then draw a line down each side of the coat from just under the head, curving in a little at the bottom.
Step 5: Left arm and coat bottom
On the left side, draw a bendy arm that ends in a small round hand. Then draw a wavy line across the bottom of the coat and a short slanted line at the lower right.
Step 6: Face, buttons, other arm
Draw two small dots for eyes and a little curved smile on the face. Add two small circles down the coat for buttons, a bendy arm with a round hand on the right side, and a few curvy lines at the bottom for the feet.
Step 7: The sweeping brush
Starting at the right hand, draw a long, slanted line going up and to the right. At the top, draw a circle with a smaller circle inside it, then add short lines all around it like a sun.
Step 8: Chimney and ground
On the left, draw a tall box for the chimney with a wide, flat cap on top. Then draw one long straight ground line along the bottom, from the chimney past the sweep's feet.
Step 9: Chimney bricks
Draw a few straight lines across the chimney. Then add short up-and-down lines between them, like a wall of little rectangles.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a chimney sweep
- Draw the hat brim as a long, flat oval first, then put the tall part of the hat on top so the two pieces line up.
- The round brush at the top is the trickiest part. Draw the two circles first, then add the short lines around the outside, spacing them like the hours on a clock.
- For the chimney bricks, draw the long lines across first and the short up-and-down lines last. Use a ruler or the edge of a book if you want the lines extra straight.
