Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Head sides
Draw two curved lines for the sides of the head. Make a short curve on the left that bends in a little at the bottom, and a curve on the upper right with a small hook for an ear.
Step 3: The trash can
Draw a long, flat shape across the bottom of the head for the rim. Then add a bowl shape below it, with sides that slant in a little toward the bottom.
Step 4: The cap
Draw a dome on top of the head like half a circle. Add a curved line across the bottom for the brim, and a tiny bump on top for the button.
Step 5: Mask, eyes and nose
Draw two puffy ovals joined in the middle, like a pair of goggles. Put a dot in each oval for eyes, then add a small round nose with a short line going down from it.
Step 6: Can stripes
Draw three straight lines from the top rim down to the bottom of the can. Keep them evenly spaced so the can looks sturdy.
Step 7: The striped tail
On the left, draw a long curvy sausage shape that bends at the bottom. Add two short lines across it for stripes.
Step 8: The curly sprig
On the right, draw a long curving line that starts at the rim and sweeps up. Add a second wavy line beside it so it looks like a stem.
Step 9: The leaves
At the top of the stem, draw a tall, skinny leaf shape. Then draw a rounded leaf on the right to finish the sprig.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a raccoon in a trash can
- Draw the head sides first and the can second. The can overlaps the bottom of the head, so stop the head lines where they meet the rim.
- The mask is the trickiest part. Draw two ovals side by side first, then join them in the middle with a gentle dip.
- Keep the three stripes on the can straight and about the same distance apart. Use the edge of a ruler or card to guide you if you like.
