How to draw a cat reading a book step by step

How to Draw a Cat Reading a Book · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The round head

Draw a big wide oval near the top of your page for the cat's head. Make it a little wider than it is tall.

  3. Step 3: The pointy ears

On top of the head, draw two tall triangles with slightly rounded tips. Start each one on the head line and lean them a little outward.

  4. Step 4: The body lines

Under the head, start a long curved line at each side of the chin. Let each one bulge out and curve down, and leave the bottom open for now.

  5. Step 5: Glasses circles

Draw two circles side by side in the middle of the face, one for each eye. Keep them about the same size, with a small gap between them.

  6. Step 6: Nose, mouth and eyes

Draw a short little line between the circles to join them into glasses. Below it, draw a small rounded triangle for the nose and a tiny curvy smile under it. Then put a dot inside each circle for the eyes.

  7. Step 7: The open book

In the middle of the tummy, draw an open book with two pages side by side. Add a straight line down the middle where the pages meet.

  8. Step 8: Paws holding the book

Draw a small rounded bump on each side of the book, like a letter C and a backward C. These are the paws holding the pages.

  9. Step 9: Feet and curly tail

At the bottom of the body, draw two flat ovals side by side for the feet. Then draw a long curve out from the left side, ending in a little curl for the tail.

  10. Step 10: A cup of tea

Next to the cat, draw a cup with a flat top and a rounded bottom. Add a small loop handle on the right and two wiggly steam lines above.

  11. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a cat reading a book

  • Draw the head first and the glasses second. The two circles should sit in the middle of the face with room left below for the nose and smile.
  • Keep the two body lines open at the bottom at first. The feet close the shape later, so you do not need to join the lines yourself.
  • Make the paws small bumps that touch the sides of the book. Letting the lines meet makes it look like the cat is really holding it.
