Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The head
Draw a big round circle near the top of the page for the head. Add a few little bumps of fluff along the top, with a couple of tiny tufts near the top right.
Step 3: The round body
Under the head, draw two curved lines that start at the chin, one on each side. Let them bow out and then curve back in toward each other, leaving the bottom open.
Step 4: The flippers
On each side of the body, draw a leaf shape that points down, like a little wing. Start each one at the shoulder and curve it out and back in to the side of the body.
Step 5: The face mask
Inside the head, draw a wide heart shape with a dip in the middle at the top. Make the bottom of the heart curve like a smile.
Step 6: Eyes and beak
Draw two small round dots for eyes, one on each side of the face. Between them, draw a little rounded triangle for the beak.
Step 7: The tummy
In the middle of the body, draw an upside-down U shape for the belly. Leave a little space between it and the edge of the body, and leave the bottom open.
Step 8: The feet
At the bottom of the body, draw two flat ovals for feet, one on each side. Join them with short flat lines across the top so the feet look like they hold up the body.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a baby penguin
- Draw the head circle first and keep it light, so you can fix it if it comes out lopsided.
- The heart-shaped face is the trickiest part. Draw the two curves on top first, then connect them with a smile along the bottom.
- Make the two feet about the same size and place them level with each other so your penguin looks steady.
