Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The bowl
Draw a wide, flat oval for the top of the bowl. Then draw a big curve hanging down from both sides like a smile, and add a second curved line across the bowl just under the top edge.
Step 3: The tall middle chip
Above the bowl, draw a triangle with a point at the top and a flat bottom. This is the tallest chip, so keep it in the middle.
Step 4: The left chip
Draw a smaller, tall triangle on the left, leaning a little. Leave a tiny gap at its bottom right corner, because another chip will tuck in there.
Step 5: The right chip
Draw another tall triangle on the right side, about the same size as the left one. Stand it up with its point at the top and a flat bottom.
Step 6: The front left chip
Start with a small circle where the left chip meets the tall chip. From the circle, draw a line up to a point, then down the right side and along a short flat bottom. Close the left side by sliding it down to the bowl rim.
Step 7: The front right chip
Start at the bowl rim on the right, draw a line up to a bumpy point under the right chip, then bring the right side down to the bowl edge. This chip leans in front of the right chip.
Step 8: Dots and a smile
Draw a circle on the tall chip and a tiny curved smile inside it. Add one small circle near the top of the right chip, like a little bit of salsa.
Step 9: The melty cheese
Inside the bowl, draw a long, wiggly line like a row of little hills and valleys. Finish with a short drip hanging down toward the bowl line.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing nachos
- Draw the bowl first, then tuck the front chips against its rim. Chips that overlap each other make the pile look real.
- Make the three back triangles different sizes and tilt them a little. Matching triangles look stiff, and tilted ones look tossed in the bowl.
- Draw the cheese as one long line with rounded hills and valleys, going up and down like a wave, without lifting your pencil.

How to color your nachos drawing
Color the chips golden yellow, the cheese bright orange, and the bowl a cool blue so the food stands out. For a creative twist, color the small circles red like salsa or green like jalapeno slices.
Nachos fun fact for kids
Nachos were invented in 1943 in Piedras Negras, Mexico, when a cook named Ignacio Anaya, nicknamed Nacho, quickly made a snack from tortilla chips and melted cheese.
Questions about drawing nachos
What shapes do I need to draw nachos?
You need triangles for the chips, a wide oval and a curved bowl shape for the bowl, and a wavy line for the cheese. Small circles make good bits of salsa.
How do I make the chips look like they are in front of each other?
Draw the back chip first, then stop its lines where the front chip begins. This is called overlapping, and it makes the chips look stacked.
How do I make my nachos look cuter?
Add a small face to one chip, like the smile on the tall one. Round the corners of the triangles a little so they look soft and friendly.
