How to Draw a Megaphone (Easy Step by Step)

A megaphone is a great first object to draw because it is mostly straight lines and curves. You build it from a small rounded mouthpiece, a long cone, and a tall oval at the wide end. Curved sound lines and a star make it look like it is really shouting.

  1. Step 1: Mouthpiece and cone

Start on the left with a small rounded shape like a sideways letter U, open on the right. From its top and bottom corners, draw two straight lines that spread apart as they go right, like a party hat lying on its side.

  2. Step 2: The wide opening

At the right end where the two long lines stop, draw a tall, skinny oval to close the cone.

  3. Step 3: Stripes on the cone

Draw a straight up-and-down line to separate the mouthpiece from the cone. Then add two gently curved lines across the cone, bending the same way as the opening.

  4. Step 4: The top bump

Above the left part of the cone, draw a small curved bump like a little rainbow. Its two ends should touch the top line of the cone.

  5. Step 5: Handle and trigger

Under the cone, draw a long rounded shape like a bean that hangs down from the bottom line. Then add a little curved hook on its right side for the trigger.

  6. Step 6: Sound waves

To the right of the opening, draw three curved lines that bend like parentheses. Make each one a little taller than the one before.

  7. Step 7: A little star

Above the sound waves, draw a small five-pointed star outline.

  8. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a megaphone

  • Keep the two long cone lines straight and let them spread apart evenly. A ruler or the edge of a book can help the first time.
  • Draw the stripes and the opening so they all curve the same way. They should bend like the edge of a ball facing right.
  • Draw the handle after the cone so you know where it hangs. Start it at the bottom line of the cone and let it go down before it curves at the bottom.

Questions about drawing a megaphone

What shapes do I need to draw a megaphone?

You need a small rounded mouthpiece, a long cone made from two spreading lines, and a tall oval for the opening. The handle is a long rounded shape, and the sound waves are simple curves.

How do I make my megaphone look like it is loud?

Add three curved sound lines in front of the opening and make each one a little taller than the last. A small star nearby makes it feel even more exciting.

Why does my cone look crooked?

Draw the top line first and then copy its slope on the bottom line. Try to make both lines end at the same distance from the mouthpiece so the oval fits neatly.
