Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The big round head
Draw a big circle for the head. Add a tiny loop on top, like a little hair tuft.
Step 3: Face, bib and right arm
Add two dot eyes and a curved smile on the face. Under the head, draw a small box for the bib, then draw a curved arm from its right side down to a small hand holding a little leafy stick.
Step 4: Overalls and legs
Draw two long lines down from the bib to make the sides of the overalls. At the bottom, draw a wide box for the legs and add one short line down the middle to split them.
Step 5: The left arm
Draw a bent arm coming out from the left side of the bib. Finish it with a small circle for the hand and a short line going down and out from it.
Step 6: The little shovel
Make the line from the hand longer so it becomes a thin handle going down and out. Finish it with a pointed oval for the scoop at the end.
Step 7: The flower pot
Next to the right hand, draw a wide, flat rectangle for the rim. Under it, draw a box that gets narrower at the bottom, with a flat base.
Step 8: The flower
Above the pot, draw a circle for the flower with a smaller circle inside it. Add a pointy leaf on the side of the stem.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid planting a flower
- Draw the head circle first and keep it light. The body goes right under it, so a good circle makes the whole drawing easier.
- The shovel is the trickiest part. Draw the long thin handle first, then add the pointed oval scoop at the end.
- Make the pot wider at the top than at the bottom. Then draw the flower circles above the pot so the flower sits above the middle of the rim.
