Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The round body
Draw a big, wide oval with a gently rounded top and a curved bottom. This is the main part of the kettle, so make it nice and large.
Step 3: The big handle
Draw a tall arch over the top of the body. Start on the left side of the top of the body, curve up and over like a rainbow, and come back down to the right side.
Step 4: The little lid
Inside the handle, draw a small half circle sitting on top of the body, like a tiny hill. Its two ends should touch the body.
Step 5: The lid knob
On top of the lid, draw a small ring, like a tiny doughnut. Its bottom touches the middle of the lid.
Step 6: The curvy spout
On the right side of the body, draw two curved lines that sweep up and out like an elephant trunk. Start both lines on the body and let them end close together at the top.
Step 7: The happy face
Add two round dots for eyes in the middle of the body. Then draw a small curved smile, like a little bowl, between and below them.
Step 8: Spout tip and steam
Draw a short curved line across the top of the spout to make its opening. Then, above the spout, draw two wiggly lines that go up like little snakes to show the hot steam.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kettle
- Draw the body first and make it wide. The handle, lid and spout all attach to it, so a good body makes everything else easier.
- The spout is the trickiest part. Draw the top curve first, then the bottom curve right next to it, so the two lines stay about the same distance apart.
- Keep the steam wiggles loose and different from each other. They look best when they are not perfectly matching.

How to color your kettle drawing
Try a shiny red or sky blue kettle with a yellow handle and a gray lid. For a creative twist, color the steam in rainbow stripes, as if the kettle is making a magic potion.
Kettle fun fact for kids
Water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit (100 degrees Celsius) at sea level, which is why a kettle starts to steam when it gets that hot.
Questions about drawing a kettle
What shapes do I need to draw a kettle?
You need a big oval for the body, an arch for the handle, a half circle for the lid, and a small ring for the knob. The spout is two curved lines that sweep upward.
How do I make my kettle look cuter?
Give it a face with two round dot eyes and a small smile. Draw the eyes in the middle of the body and place them wide apart, which makes the kettle look sweet and friendly.
How do I draw the spout so it looks right?
Start where the spout meets the body and draw one curve up and out. Then draw a second curve below it going the same way, and let the two lines end close together at the top. A short curved line across the tip finishes the opening.
