Step 1: Bowl and spout curve
Start near the top left and draw a long curve that slants down and then swoops into a U shape at the bottom. Let the curve rise up on the right side, but stop before the top.
Step 2: The rim and spout
Draw a long, flat oval across the top for the rim. Then draw a line from the top of your curve, at the upper left, that curves down to touch the left end of the oval. This makes the pointy spout.
Step 3: The handle
On the right side of the bowl, draw a rounded loop shaped like a backwards letter C. Start at the bowl, bend out to the right, and come back to touch the bowl lower down.
Step 4: The gravy
Inside the rim oval, draw a wavy line that goes up and down like little hills. This is the gravy.
Step 5: The stand sides
Under the bottom of the bowl, draw two short slanted lines that slope outward as they go down, like the sides of a tiny trapezoid.
Step 6: The plate
Draw a wide, flat oval underneath for the plate. Then join the bottoms of the two short lines with a gentle curved line to finish the stand.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a gravy boat
- Draw the long spout line in one smooth, sweeping stroke. A little wobble is fine, because real spouts are curvy too.
- Make the rim oval wide and flat, like a squished circle. If it is too tall, the bowl will look like a tall cup.
- Draw the wavy gravy line inside the rim and keep the waves about the same size, like a row of little hills.

How to color your gravy boat drawing
Try warm brown for the gravy and a pretty pattern of blue flowers on the boat and plate. For a creative twist, turn it into a magic potion boat with sparkly purple liquid.
Gravy boat fun fact for kids
A gravy boat is also called a sauceboat, and the name comes from its shape, which looks a bit like a little boat with a pointed front.
Questions about drawing a gravy boat
What shapes do I need to draw a gravy boat?
You need a big U-shaped bowl, two flat ovals for the rim and plate, a pointy spout, a loop for the handle and a short stand between the bowl and plate.
How do I make the spout look right?
Start with the long slanting curve on the left, then draw a second line from its top point down to the rim. The two lines meet in a point at the top left, like a bird beak.
How do I make my gravy boat look fancier?
Add stripes or little flowers around the bowl and the plate. Colored pencils work great for patterns.
