Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The helmet
Draw a big rounded dome like half of an egg for the top of the helmet. Add a curved line across the lower part for the helmet's edge, then let the sides curve down a little on each end.
Step 3: Face mask and arm
Under the helmet, draw a wide rounded rectangle for the face mask and add two small dots for eyes inside it. Draw a little chin guard below it, then on the right draw a short bent arm that ends in a small circle for the glove.
Step 4: Bottom of the jersey
Below the head, draw a curved line for the bottom of the jersey, with a second line just under it to make the hem. Add a short side line on the right that goes up toward the arm.
Step 5: The star
Draw a small five-point star in the middle of the jersey. Start with a point at the top and zigzag around until the star closes up.
Step 6: The other arm
On the left side of the jersey, draw a long bent oval for the arm, starting near the shoulder. Let it curve down toward the bottom of the jersey.
Step 7: Glove and skates
Finish the left arm with a small curve at the bottom for the glove. Then draw two short lines under the jersey for legs, and a wide boot shape with a flat bottom at the end of each one.
Step 8: The hockey stick
On the right side, draw a long, slightly tilted line for the stick that passes by the glove. At the bottom, add a bent blade pointing to the right, with a small oval puck beside it.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a hockey player
- Draw the helmet first and make it wide, so the face mask fits underneath with room for the chin guard.
- Keep the star small and simple. Start at the top point and zigzag around, and it will close up by itself.
- Draw the stick as one long line first, then add the bent blade and the puck at the bottom so it stays neat.
