How to draw a football player step by step

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The helmet

Start near the top of the page and draw a big rounded dome for the helmet. Begin at the bottom left, curve up and over the top, and come down the right side, tucking both ends in a little and leaving the bottom open.

  3. Step 3: Face opening and chin strap

Draw a wide, gently curved line with little slanted ends across the lower part of the helmet to make the top of the face opening. Then draw a short, flat curved line along the bottom to join the two ends of the helmet.

  4. Step 4: Helmet stripes

Draw two straight lines side by side at the top of the helmet, going down from the top edge. Make them the same length so they look like racing stripes.

  5. Step 5: Collar and shorts

Under the chin, draw a short curved line for the collar. Below it, draw a short straight line going down on the left for the side of the shirt. Then draw a wide, short box for the shorts, with a small bump in the bottom edge between the legs.

  6. Step 6: Face, shoulders and arms

Add two small dots for eyes and a little curved smile inside the face opening. Then draw a puffy, rounded shoulder pad on each side under the collar, and an arm hanging down from each one. On the right, add a small shape for the hand and a short slanted line beside it, and draw a tiny line below the shorts for a leg.

  7. Step 7: The star

In the middle of the shirt, draw a small five-pointed star outline.

  8. Step 8: Ball and hand

Next to the right arm, draw an egg shape standing a little tilted for the football, around the short slanted line. Then draw a small circle at the end of the left arm for the hand.

  9. Step 9: Legs and shoes

Under the shorts, draw a short straight line for the second leg. At the bottom of each leg, draw a wide flat oval for a shoe.

  10. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a football player

  • Draw the helmet big and leave plenty of room underneath for the body, since the helmet is about as tall as the rest of the player.
  • Keep the two helmet stripes the same length and the same distance apart. Start at the top edge of the helmet and aim straight down.
  • The shoulder pads are the trickiest part. Think of two puffy clouds sitting on each side of the shirt, then add the arms hanging from them.
