Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Sides of the head
Draw two curved lines that make the sides of a round head. Leave a gap at the top for the hat and a gap at the bottom for the neck.
Step 3: The bucket hat
Draw a dome like half a ball on top of the head. Add a curved band across the bottom of the dome, then a wide brim below it that sticks out a bit on both sides.
Step 4: The happy face
Put two small dots for eyes in the middle of the face. Underneath, draw a short curved smile like a little bowl.
Step 5: The body
Under the head, draw a short line across for the shoulders. Then draw a straight line down from each end to make the sides of a tall body.
Step 6: Straps and boots
Draw two straight lines down the front of the body for the overall straps. Then draw two chunky boots at the bottom, each shaped like a rounded letter L.
Step 7: Arms and pockets
On the right side of the body, draw a long skinny oval for the arm resting down. On the left side, draw a curved line for the arm that reaches up and out. Add two small squares above the boots for pockets, and a little triangle on the left for the fish tail.
Step 8: The fish
Draw a small ring for the hook, then a short line down to the fish. Make the fish body like a leaf or lemon shape and add a dot for the eye. The triangle tail sits at the bottom.
Step 9: The fishing rod
On the right, draw a long straight slanted line for the rod. Add two little circles on the line, one near the middle and one lower down, for the reel and a guide.
Step 10: The hat badge
On the front of the hat dome, draw a tiny fish-like shape with a short line sticking down. It is a small badge that shows he loves fishing.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a fisherman
- Leave a gap at the top of the head sides, so the hat dome can sit on them neatly.
- The tricky part is the boots. Think of each one as a rounded letter L, with a small square pocket sitting just above it.
- Draw the fishing rod in one steady stroke. Pick a starting point and a stopping point, then sweep your pencil between them without stopping.
