Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The potato body
Draw a big, lumpy oval, a bit like a bean. Make the top edge dip in gently on the right and bulge out at the right corner, then curve around and close the shape at the bottom.
Step 3: Cheek rings
Near the bottom of the potato, draw two small rings for cheeks, one on the left and one on the right. Make each one a squished oval, wider than it is tall.
Step 4: Eyes and smile
Draw two small filled-in dots for eyes, a little above the cheeks and closer to the middle. Then draw a small curved smile between the cheeks, below the eyes.
Step 5: Spots on top
Near the top of the potato, draw two short curved dashes like little rainbows. Put one near the middle and one a bit lower, toward the right.
Step 6: Spots on the sides
Add one short curved dash on the upper left, near the edge. Then draw another short dash on the lower right, just above and beside the right cheek.
Step 7: Last small spot
Near the bottom left, add a short, wavy dash below the left cheek. This finishes your potato's skin.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a potato
- Draw the outline slowly, and let it be a little bumpy. Real potatoes are never perfectly round, so wobbly lines look right.
- Draw the two cheek rings at the same height. Look at both of them before you add the eyes so the face stays even.
- Keep the spots short and curved, like tiny rainbows. Draw them with a quick, light flick of the pencil.

Color the potato light brown or golden tan, and the cheeks soft pink. For a creative twist, give your potato a tiny scarf or a pile of butter and chives on top.
Potato fun fact for kids
Potatoes were first grown by farmers in the Andes mountains of South America thousands of years ago. Today they are grown all over the world.
Questions about drawing a potato
What shapes do I need to draw a potato?
You need one big lumpy oval for the body, two small rings for cheeks, two dots for eyes, one curved smile, and a few short curves for the spots.
How do I make my potato look cuter?
Keep the two eyes the same size and place them a little above the cheeks, close to the smile. Round cheeks and a small smile in the middle finish the sweet look.
Why does my potato look too round?
Try stretching one side and letting the top dip in a little, like a bean. A potato looks more real when its outline is uneven.
