How to draw a lizard step by step

How to Draw a Lizard · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The round head

Draw a big circle near the top of your paper for the head. Stop a little early at the bottom so there is a small gap where the neck will join.

  3. Step 3: Neck and body sides

Start at the gap under the head and draw two wavy lines going down, one from each side. Make the left line short and the right line a little longer, bending like a gentle snake.

  4. Step 4: Belly and curly tail

Keep going down the left side, then sweep a big round curve across the bottom for the belly. Let it curl up on the right into a pointy tail tip.

  5. Step 5: The smiley face

Close the bottom of the head with a short curved line for the chin. Add two round dots for eyes and a little smile underneath.

  6. Step 6: Two arms and spots

Draw a short bent tube on the upper right side of the body and another on the left side, and add three little finger lines at the end of each. Then dot two round spots on the body.

  7. Step 7: Back legs and more spots

Near the bottom left, draw a short tube stretching out to the left with finger lines at its end. Add a small bent leg near the tail inside the body, and dot a few more round spots.

  8. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a lizard

  • Draw the two body lines so they bend the same way, like a river. If they stay about the same distance apart, the body will look smooth.
  • Make the head circle roughly as wide as the neck so the head does not look too tiny or too huge.
  • Keep each finger line short. Three quick lines on each hand is plenty.
  • Add the spots last, and scatter them so they are not all in a row.

Many lizards can drop their tails if a predator grabs them, and the tail slowly grows back.
