  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The big bowl

Draw a wide, flat line across the page for the rim. Then curve a big smile shape underneath it, starting and ending at the two ends of the rim, to make the round bowl.

  3. Step 3: The little foot

At the bottom center of the bowl, draw a short, wide trapezoid, like a small upside-down bucket, so the bowl can stand up.

  4. Step 4: Fluffy lettuce

Above the rim, draw lots of puffy, cloud-like bumps in a row, starting and ending on the rim. Add one little arch inside the bumps on the right.

  5. Step 5: The spoon

Draw an oval for the spoon's scoop on the upper left. Then draw two straight lines running down and to the right from the oval to make the handle, ending in the lettuce.

  6. Step 6: The fork

Draw two long slanted lines going up and to the right from the lettuce for the fork handle. At the top, add short lines for the prongs, like fingers.

  7. Step 7: Veggie slices and cubes

Tuck round circles into the lettuce for the veggie slices, with a smaller circle inside some and a few tiny dots inside others. Add little squares for cheese cubes in the gaps between them.

  8. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a salad bowl

  • Draw the rim line first and keep it straight, then curve the bowl down from both ends so the two sides match.
  • The lettuce is the trickiest part. Make each bump a different size, and let the bumps overlap so it looks ruffled.
  • Draw the slices as circles first, then add a smaller circle or a few tiny dots inside. Tuck the squares in the gaps between them.

Salad bowl fun fact for kids

Cucumbers are about 95 percent water, which is why a cold slice tastes so crisp and juicy.

Questions about drawing a salad bowl

What shapes do I need to draw a salad bowl?

You need a half circle for the bowl, circles for the slices, small squares for the cubes, and wavy bumps for the lettuce. An oval and two long lines make the spoon.

How do I make the lettuce look ruffled?

Draw bumps of different sizes in a row and let them overlap a little. Wobbly lines look better than perfect ones here.

How do I make my salad bowl look full?

Let the lettuce rise above the rim and pack the circles and cubes close together. Overlapping the shapes makes the bowl feel heaped.
