How to draw a barn step by step

How to Draw a Barn · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: The barn outline

Draw two tall side walls, then bend each one inward into a steep roof slope and a gentler slope that meet in a point at the top, like a hat. Close the bottom with a flat floor line.

  2. Step 2: The loft line

Draw a straight line across the barn from one side wall to the other, where the walls turn into the roof. This splits the barn into a roof part and a wall part.

  3. Step 3: The big door

Draw a tall door shape in the middle of the wall part: two straight sides going up from the floor line, joined by a flat top a little below the loft line.

  4. Step 4: Splitting the doors

Draw one straight line down the middle of the door, from top to bottom, to make two doors.

  5. Step 5: The door crosses

In each door, draw a big X from corner to corner. The two lines cross in the middle of each door.

  6. Step 6: The round window

Draw a circle in the middle of the roof area, high above the doors. This is the hayloft window.

  7. Step 7: The weather vane

Draw a short straight line going up from the peak of the roof. Then draw a short sideways line across the top of it, like the letter T.

  8. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a barn

  • Use a ruler or the edge of a book for the long wall lines and the loft line, then draw the rest freehand. Straight lines make a barn look sturdy.
  • The roof bends once on each side. Draw the steep part first, then the gentler part, and stop at the center point so both sides match.
  • For the door Xs, mark the four corners of each door first, then connect them. The lines should cross right in the middle.

Questions about drawing a barn

What shapes do I need to draw a barn?

You need a tall shape for the walls, a bent roof on top, a smaller door shape, and a circle for the window. The X marks on the doors are just crossed straight lines.

How do I make the roof look right?

Draw the steep side slopes first, then the flatter slopes up to the peak. Check that the left and right sides look like mirror images.

How do I make my barn look more like a farm?

Add a fence, some grass along the bottom, and a few animals like a cow or a pig standing out front. A sun in the sky helps too.
