How to Draw an Anglerfish (Easy Step by Step)
An anglerfish is a funny deep sea fish with its own built-in flashlight, and it is easy to draw because it is mostly one big oval. You will use an oval for the body, a small circle for the glowing light, and a row of zigzags for the toothy grin. Even a beginner can make this chubby little fish look friendly.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The round body
Draw a big, wide oval for the body, like a plump egg lying on its side. Stop on the right side, leaving a gap, and finish with a tiny curl that points out to the right.
Step 3: The tail fin
On the right side of the body, draw the tail like a sideways letter V with a wavy edge and two rounded points. Start at the little curl at the top and end where the body outline stops at the bottom.
Step 4: The side fin
Low on the right side of the body, draw a small leaf shape with two pointy ends, like a tiny lemon slice tilted a little.
Step 5: The fishing rod
Start at the top of the head and draw a line that goes straight up, then curves over to the left, like a candy cane.
Step 6: The glowing lure
At the end of the curved rod, draw a small circle for the glowing lure. Make it touch the end of the line.
Step 7: The eye
Near the left side of the head, draw one small round dot for the eye.
Step 8: The big smile
Start at the left edge of the body and draw a long, mostly flat line toward the middle. Let it curve gently up at the end to make a wide grin.
Step 9: Zigzag teeth
Under the left part of the smile line, draw a row of small zigzag points, like the letter W repeated. Each point hangs down like a little tooth.
Step 10: Light rays
Around the top left of the glowing circle, draw three short lines pointing outward, like rays from a tiny sun.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an anglerfish
- Draw the big body oval slowly and lightly. Everything else attaches to it, so a nice round shape makes the rest easy.
- The zigzag teeth are the trickiest part. Make little points that all hang down and are about the same size.
- Start the rod at the top of the head, then add the circle at the other end so the light looks connected.

How to color your anglerfish drawing
Try deep blue or purple for the body, with a bright yellow glow for the light and white teeth. For a creative twist, color the ocean around your fish dark and add tiny glowing dots like faraway stars.
Anglerfish fun fact for kids
Many deep sea anglerfish have a lure on a stalk that glows in the dark. The glow comes from tiny glowing bacteria living inside it, and it attracts small fish.
