A snowman is a great first drawing because it is mostly round shapes stacked on top of each other. Add a tall hat, a cozy scarf and twiggy arms, and it suddenly has a lot of personality. If you can draw a circle, you can draw this snowman.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The big bottom ball
Draw a big round shape near the bottom of the page for the snowman's base. Leave a gap at the top, where the next ball will sit.
Step 3: The middle ball
Draw a medium round shape sitting on top of the big ball. Start where the big ball's outline stops, curve around the sides and bottom, and add two short lines going up at the top.
Step 4: The sides of the head
Draw two wavy lines going up, one from each short line at the top of the middle ball. Leave the top open for now, since the hat will cover it.
Step 5: The top hat
Draw a tall rounded rectangle on top of the head. Then add a wide, flat brim across the bottom of it that sticks out on both sides.
Step 6: The scarf
Draw a curved line across the neck, then a second curved line a little lower. Add a tall, narrow tail hanging down from the lower line on the right side.
Step 7: Stick arms
Draw a long bendy line from each side of the middle ball, curving up and out. Add a few short twigs branching off the end of each arm.
Step 8: The nose
Draw a small, rounded oval in the middle of the face, lying on its side, for the nose.
Step 9: Hat band, face and buttons
Draw a line across the hat just above the brim. Add two round dots for eyes above the nose and a few tiny dots below it for a smile. Draw a second line down the scarf tail, then two round buttons down the big bottom ball.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a snowman
- Start with the big bottom ball, then draw a smaller ball and a smaller head on top. Let each ball overlap the one below it a little so the snowman looks stacked.
- The hat brim is the trickiest part. Draw it as a long, slightly curved line that sticks out past both sides of the head.
- Make the arms bend in the middle and add the twigs last. Wobbly arms look more like real sticks.

How to color your snowman drawing
Leave the snowman white or pale blue and give the hat and scarf bright colors. Color the nose orange if you like, and fill in the eyes and buttons with a dark color. For a twist, draw a snowy night sky behind it and add falling snowflakes.
Snowman fun fact for kids
Snowflakes have six sides. Ice crystals form with their water molecules arranged in a six-sided pattern, so every snowflake has six arms or points.
