A stacking ring toy is a great first drawing because it is built from simple rounded shapes piled up like a tower. You will use a long rounded rectangle, wavy and straight lines, a round knob and two ovals. Add a smiling face on the base and one ring left on the floor, and it feels like a toy with a personality.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The wide base
Draw a long rounded rectangle near the bottom of your paper, like a fat pill lying down. This is the chunky base the rings sit on.
Step 3: Bumpy side lines
Start at the top corners of the base and draw a wavy line up on the left and another on the right. Let them lean toward each other so the tower gets narrower as it rises, with small bumps where each ring will be.
Step 4: Lines between rings
Draw four straight, flat lines across the tower from the left side to the right side, spaced evenly. Each line sits at a bump and closes off one ring, so you get a stack of fat, rounded bands.
Step 5: The top ring
Finish the smallest ring at the top with a rounded line across its top that joins the two side bumps. It should look like a small pillow.
Step 6: The round knob
On top of the smallest ring, draw a round loop like a little ball. Start and end the loop on the top of the ring so it looks like it sits there.
Step 7: The happy face
On the base, draw two small solid dots for eyes. Between them and a little lower, draw a short curved smile like a tiny bowl.
Step 8: The loose ring
Beside the tower, on the right, draw a wide, flat oval lying on the ground. Then draw a smaller oval inside it for the hole.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing stacking rings
- Make the rings get a little narrower each time as you go up. If the tower is straight like a box, it will not look like a stacking toy.
- Draw the flat lines between the rings with a light touch first. Keep them about the same distance apart so every ring looks the same thickness.
- The loose ring on the ground is a wide, flat oval. Draw it much wider than it is tall, and it will look like it is lying down.

How to color your stacking rings drawing
Use a different bright color for each ring, such as red, orange, yellow, green and blue, and make the knob on top a contrasting color. For a creative twist, give the loose ring a rainbow pattern or draw a second tower of rings in a pastel set.
Stacking rings fun fact for kids
On most stacking ring toys, the rings come in different sizes. The biggest ring goes on the pole first and the smallest goes on last, so the finished stack is wide at the bottom and narrow at the top.
Questions about drawing stacking rings
What shapes do I need to draw stacking rings?
You need a long rounded rectangle for the base, wavy lines for the sides, straight lines between the rings, and a round loop for the top knob. The loose ring on the ground is just two ovals.
How do I make my stacking rings look like a real tower?
Make each ring slightly smaller than the one below it, and keep the sides leaning in toward the middle. Draw the rings in a neat stack with the knob on top.
How do I make the stacking rings look cuter?
Give the base a face with two round dot eyes and a small smile. Round off all the corners so every ring looks soft and squishy.
