How to Draw a Hawk: easy drawing guide for kids

How to Draw a Hawk (Easy Step by Step)

A hawk is a fun first bird to draw because it is built from a few simple shapes: a round head, a rounded body, and a long curved wing. The hooked beak and the big dark eye give it a proud, watchful look. Perched on a branch, it looks ready to take off.

How to draw a hawk step by step

How to Draw a Hawk · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Head and back

Start at the front of the head and draw a big round dome going up and over. Keep the line going down the back in a long, gentle curve, with a little bump where the head meets the body, and finish with a small flick at the bottom.

  2. Step 2: Chest and belly

Start under where the beak will go and draw a curved line down the front, like the letter C. Let it swell out into a round tummy and curve in toward the bottom, ending with a little hook.

  3. Step 3: The hooked beak

Draw a small curved hook at the front of the head, like a letter C turned on its side. Add a short line underneath it for the mouth.

  4. Step 4: The eye

Draw a small round circle in the middle of the head and color it in dark. Hawks have sharp eyes, so make it nice and bold.

  5. Step 5: Wing and tail

Start inside the body and draw a long curve that sweeps down and to the right into a wing. Keep going to make a tail that ends in soft bumps, then add one little feather line on the wing.

  6. Step 6: Feet and claws

Draw two small feet under the body with little rounded toes. Make each foot look like a tiny hand ready to wrap around the branch.

  7. Step 7: The branch

Draw a long, bumpy branch that runs under the feet. Make the left end split into a forked twig, like a letter Y lying down.

  8. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a hawk

  • Start with the big dome of the head and let the line flow down the back in one smooth curve.
  • The hooked beak is the trickiest part. Think of a small letter C on its side, then add the mouth line.
  • Draw the feet first, then draw the branch right across them so the toes look like they are holding on.

Hawks have very sharp eyesight, much better than ours, so a hawk high in the sky can spot a mouse in the grass far below.
