Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 3 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Dad's head
Draw a big circle near the top left of your page for dad's head. Leave a tiny gap at the bottom where the neck will be.
Step 3: Dad's body
Under the head, draw a tall rectangle with rounded corners. Start it right below the gap in the head.
Step 4: Dad's legs and feet
From the bottom of the body, draw two long straight lines going down for legs. At the end of each leg, add a short line pointing outward to make a foot.
Step 5: Dad's happy face
Inside the head, draw two small dots for eyes. Under them, draw a wide curved smile like a bowl.
Step 6: Son's head
To the right of dad, lower down, draw a smaller circle for the son's head. Leave a tiny gap at the bottom, just like dad's.
Step 7: Son's body
Under the son's head, draw a short rounded rectangle for his body. Leave the bottom open for now, with the two bottom corners curling in a little.
Step 8: Son's legs and arm
Draw two short straight legs coming down from the body, each with a little foot. Then draw one short arm on the right side of his body, slanting down and out.
Step 9: Dad's other arm
Draw a short line on the left side of dad's body, near the top. Slant it down and a little outward for his arm.
Step 10: Son's face and long arm
Inside the son's head, draw two small dots for eyes and a little curved smile. Then draw a long line from dad's right side down to the son's body, bending at the bottom so they hold hands.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a father and son
- Draw dad first and make his body tall and narrow, so the son has room to look small next to him.
- Leave a tiny gap between each head and body. It makes the neck look right and keeps the shapes from squashing together.
- Save the long hand-holding arm for last. Start at dad's side and go slowly, so the line reaches the son's body without wobbling.
